Preanalytics in blood gas testing - Importance of sample mixing

March 22, 2018

This webinar is presented by Professor Ana-Maria Simundic from the department of Medical biochemistry at Zagreb University. Her research activities focus on quality management and the preanalytical phase.

Recording and slides

This webinar will review all steps in the preanalytical phase of blood gas testing focusing on possible sources or errors and error prevention opportunities.

A specific emphasis will be placed on the mixing of a blood gas sample in order to obtain a homogeneous blood sample and to avoid bias on hemoglobin results.

About this webinar

62% of all errors in relation to blood gas testing occur in the preanalytical phase.

A preanalytical error can jeopardize the final test result which ultimately could lead to incorrect patient treatment.

This webinar will review all steps in the preanalytical phase of blood gas testing focusing on all possible sources or errors and error prevention opportunities. A specific emphasis is centered around the area of “mixing a blood gas sample” in order to obtain a homogeneous blood sample.

About the speaker

Prof. Ana-Maria Simundic received her graduate and postgraduate education at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medical Biochemistry at the Zagreb University where she currently holds a professor position at the department of Medical Biochemistry.

Prof. Simundic is also the Head of the Clinical unit for Medical Biochemistry and Analytical Toxicology of the University department of Chemistry at Sestre milosrdnice University hospital center.
